Hummer H1

The Hummer H1 is a civilian vehicle based on the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV), popularly known as the Humvee, which was created by AM General and originally released in the civilian market in 1992.

History

The Hummer H1 owes its birth to the popularity of photos from Operation Desert Storm as well as the enthusiastic campaign from actor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who personally owns several variants of Hummer vehicles. In 2006 GM announced that it would be the last model year for the Hummer H1 due to new diesel emission laws taking effect in 2007 which none of the models met the standards for. AM General is currently producing excess orders of 50,000 new HMMWVs for the United States Military between 2006-2009, but is still producing the H1 outside of the standard market, offering it through Fleet sales. It is expected that the next H1 will have a refined version of the 6.5L Turbo Diesel engine, although this has not been confirmed. With around 600-800 units produced each year, AM General is selling the H1's through fleet sales to avoid compliance with new emission rules and regulations.

Specifications

The Hummer H1 has three commonly known variants: a convertible-like soft top, a four-door hard top pickup truck and a Wagon body version; but there are also two-door pickup truck and four-door slantback variants. The larger pickup and slantback versions are only available in fleet livery, with only the soft top and station wagon available in the general/mass market.
