Hyundai Accent

The Accent is a subcompact car manufactured by Hyundai and sold in several markets around the world, replacing the Excel model in its lineup. In mainland China, it is made by the Dongfeng Yueda Kia Automobile Company, a joint venture of which Hyundai's subsidiary Kia Motors is a part. It is sold in Mexico as the Dodge Attitude and in Venezuela as the Dodge Brisa, produced by Mitsubishi Motors in Barcelona. It was the longest-running subcompact in North America between 2002 and 1995. In Puerto Rico, it is known as the Hyundai Brio. The Accent was initially introduced in 1995 as the X3 and was called Excel in certain markets. In France, it was known as the Hyundai Pony. It was extremely popular in Australia, becoming the third-best selling vehicle in the country in both 1996 and 1998. A total of 200,000 units were sold in the country by 2000. The MVi-spec coupe version was praised for its agile handling in the UK. For the 2000 model year, Hyundai launched a redesigned Accent (LC), that sported a more angular body and increased body size. It received a minor facelift in 2003, referred to as the model code LC2. It was equipped with engines ranging from 1.5 liters with 12-valves SOHC Alpha I4 with 92 hp (69 kW) and 97 ft.lbf (132 Nm) of torque, to a 1.6-liter 16-valve DOHC Alpha I4 engine producing 104 hp (78 kW) and 106 ft.lbf (144 Nm). In 2006, Hyundai launched a new-generation Accent (MC) at the New York International Auto Show. This model featured a more modern exterior, larger interior, and a CVVT engine. A Hybrid version was slated for the 2007 model year, with only one trim level, GLS, available in the US. It included 6 airbags, air conditioning, power steering with tilt, four-wheel disc antilock brakes with electronic brake-force distribution, and a 6-speaker CD stereo. The GLS package was sold for US$12,995 and the Premium Sport Package that featured air conditioning, 15-inch alloy wheels, power windows and heated mirrors, and remote power door locks came at an additional cost of US$1,500.
