Hyundai Santa Fe

The Hyundai Santa Fe is a mid-size crossover SUV that is built on the Hyundai Sonata platform. It made its debut in 2001 and its success in the North American market became an important part of Hyundai's restructuring plan of the 90s. Despite its fierce competition from Toyota's Highlander and GM's Pontiac Aztek, the Santa Fe was embraced by buyers. Its popularity caused Hyundai to have difficulty keeping them in stock which made it the company's best selling model in the United States. However, outside of the US, the model hasn’t taken off as well. This has been particularly true in Australia where the Santa Fe is outsold by the Toyota RAV4 by a ratio of 7:1. In the US, the Santa Fe was offered in base GL, mid-level GLS, and LX trim levels. A mid-life face-lift took place in 2005, which included updates to the grille, taillights, rear bumper, interior instrument cluster, and various other features. In Australia, all models got body-colored bumpers from 2005 onwards. The GL trim was dropped from the lineup and the 2.7 L V6 engine became the standard. Safety features such as a passenger airbag cutoff and 3-point seatbelt for the center rear position were also added. Additionally, the calendar function in the overhead console was removed and replaced by a compass.
