Hyundai Sonata

In August 2004, the 6th generation Hyundai Sonata was launched in Korea with a new platform, NF, and an all-aluminum I4 engine, Theta. This engine came in a 16-valve 2.0 L and a 2.4 L producing 166 ps at 5,800 rpm. The U.S. launch of the Sonata happened in May 2005 with the opening of Hyundai Motor Company's first U.S. assembly plant in Montgomery, Alabama. The Canadian sport version had an optional 3.3 L Lambda V6 engine providing 247 hp and 238 lb•ft of torque, offering a speed of 62 mph (100 km/h) in 6.7 sec and a top speed of 147 mph. Reports suggest it can exceed speeds over 160 mph in Korea. The Sonata's styling resembles its competitor, the Toyota Camry 2007. The latest version is 2 in (50.8 mm) longer, wider, and taller than previous models. This has given it a classification as a "large car" by the EPA and a price tag of US$18,500 for a regular model, and US$23,500 for the V6. Additionally, it was awarded the Good Design Award in the passenger car category from the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization in 2006 and was named "Best New Family Car (under $35,000)" in the 2006 Canadian Car of the Year awards.
