Hyundai Sonata V6

In August 2004, Hyundai Motor Company launched its 6th generation Sonata, built on a new platform called NF with a total cost of 290 billion won. This marked the first debut of the all-aluminum I4 engine, dubbed Theta, which was offered alongside a 16-valve 2.0 L and a 2.4 L that produces 166 ps at 5,800 rpm. To introduce the all-new Sonata to the United States, the company opened its first-ever U.S. assembly plant located in Montgomery, Alabama. The Canadian sport version of the Sonata was equipped with an optional 3.3 L Lambda V6 engine, generating 247 hp and 238 lb•ft of torque. Hyundai claimed that the car has a 0-62 mph time of 6.7 sec, a top speed of 147 mph, and is capable of going beyond 160 mph in Korea. The new model features a similar design to the Toyota Camry 2007, its competitor. The Sonata is 2 in (50.8 mm) longer, taller, and 1 in (25.4 mm) wider than the previous generation, so the US EPA now designates it as a "large car". It carries a starting price of US$18,500, with its V6 counterpart priced at US$23,500. Furthermore, the Sonata was the recipient of the Good Design Award in the passenger car category from the JIDPO (Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization) and was named "Best New Family Car (under $35,000)" in the 2006 Canadian Car of the Year awards.
