Infiniti I35
Introduced in 2000, the Infiniti I35 was a front-wheel drive luxury car from Nissan's Infiniti marque and was a rebadged Nissan Maxima sedan. In late 2001, the car received significant revisions, including new interior fittings, optional extras, larger brakes, re-tuned suspension system and standard stability control; along with the upgrade in engine-displacement from 3.0 to 3.5 liters, offering a Nissan VQ35DE V6 engine with 255 hp. Styling of the I35 was also revamped.
Despite the improved engine and other features, Infiniti was unable to establish the I35 as a sports sedan, mainly due to the 4-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel drive, making models such as the Lexus ES300 and Acura TL (base version) its closest rivals, and models like the BMW 5-Series being out of its league.
In September 2004, Infiniti announced that 2004 would be the last year for this car, and the I35 would be succeeded by the Infiniti G35 (introduced in 2003).
