Infiniti QX4

The Infiniti QX4 and the Nissan Terrano Regulus were mid-size luxury SUVs released in 1997 as rebadged Nissan Pathfinders. They were launched a year after Acura released its SLX and Lexus made its much bigger LX 450 available, marking Infiniti's first entry into the SUV market, as well as the same time as the Mercedes-Benz M-Class. The Infiniti QX4 was sold only in North America, while the Nissan Terrano Regulus was available in Japan. The main differences between these vehicles and Pathfinder included a more sophisticated 4x4 system, an embellished interior, and a distinct styling. Despite its luxury classification, it was a surprisingly good option off-road, thanks to its 4x4 system with low gearing and substantial 8.3-inch ground clearance. In 2001, the QX4 had a major update, increasing the power from a measly 168 hp (125 kW) to a more competitive 240 hp (179 kW). This revamp also gave the QX4 a restyled exterior and interior, such as a new dashboard, 17-inch alloy wheels, and xenon HID headlamps. In Japan, the Terrano Regulus shortened its name to Terrano and was remodeled to resemble the Pathfinder. Nissan discontinued the QX4 after the 2003 model year, replacing it with 2 crossovers, the Infiniti FX (the QX4's proper successor) and the larger Infiniti QX56, based on the Nissan Armada, which were both bigger than the QX4.
