Jaguar E-Type

The Jaguar E-Type (UK) or XK-E (US) is a classic British automobile that was manufactured by Jaguar between 1961 and 1975. With its unmistakable good looks, impressive performance, and accessible price point, the E-Type cemented itself as a symbol of motoring culture in the 60s and was a resounding success for Jaguar; over seventy thousand were sold in its 14-year lifespan. Series 1 (1961-1968) The Series 1 E-Type debuted in March 1961, initially for export only, with domestic market release four months later in July. Its powertrain consisted of the triple SU carburetted 3.8-litre 6-cylinder Jaguar XK6 engine, suspension was by independent coil springs and torsion bars and power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes (inboard at the rear). It was equipped with glass covered headlights (up until 1967), signal lights and tail-lights atop their bumpers, an aluminium-trimmed centre instrument panel and console (though this was updated to vinyl and leather in 1963), and a Moss gearbox which lacked synchromesh for first gear. The 3.8 litre model further featured leather-upholstered bucket seats and an exhaust tip beneath the licence plate in the rear. The October 1964 launch of the 4.2 litre version resulted in numerous improvements, such as improved brakes and electrical systems, an all-synchromesh 4-speed gearbox, as well as softer, more comfortable seating. Furthermore, the car boasted a 'Jaguar 4.2 Litre E-Type' badge on the boot, compared to the 3.8 litre model's simple 'Jaguar' sticker. Optional extras offered chrome spoked wheels and a detachable hardtop for the OTS model.
