Jaguar S-Type V8
The Jaguar S-Type is a mid-size luxury car / executive car that was first introduced in the 2000 model year. This vehicle was the comeback of a previous Jaguar model, the S-Type, that had debuted in 1964. Production of the S-Type is carried out at Jaguar's Castle Bromwich facility located in Birmingham, England. Based on the Ford/Jaguar DEW platform - which is shared with the Lincoln LS - it has gone through extensive modifications to bring it up to its current style that was designed by the late Geoff Lawson.
The high-end S-Type R was added to the lineup in 2003. This variant is powered by a supercharged 4.2L V8 engine that produces 400 horsepower (300 kW) and can accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-100 km/h) in just 5.3 seconds - thanks to its 18" wheels, wire mesh grille, and monochromatic paint job. This model also has a sportier front fascia, spoilers, and "R" badging on the rear deck lid and both front fenders. Beginning at a price of US$58,995, the S-Type R gives you the best performance and style the S-Type has to offer. After a minor facelift in 2004 that further refined the car's overall look, the S-Type was also equipped with an aluminum bonnet.
Powertrain Options
The S-Type is a rear wheel drive vehicle that options either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed J-Gate transmission allowing for both automatic and clutchless manual gear selection. For the first years of production from 2000 to 2002, the car was available with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed J-Gate.
The engine available for the S-Type span from 2.5L V6 – producing 201 hp (150 kW) – all the way to the 4.2L V8 supercharged engine with 400 hp (300 kW). Additionally, the S-Type is also offered with a 2.7L V6 diesel engine that generates 207bhp (152kW). Customers in the United States and Canada are not able to purchase the 2.5L engine.
