Jeep CJ-7 Renegade 1977 posters

Jeep CJ-7 Renegade

The Jeep CJ-7 was introduced in 1976, marking the first significant shift in Jeep design in 20 years. It had a slightly longer wheelbase than the CJ-5, affording enough space for an automatic transmission. For the first time, buyers could get a Jeep CJ-7 with an optional molded plastic top coupled with steel doors. Both the 93.5-inch wheelbase CJ-7 and the 83.5-inch wheelbase CJ-5 was available until 1983, when demand for the CJ-7 caused AMC to discontinue the CJ-5 after it had been in production for 30 years. In 1973, Jeep set an industry benchmark by releasing the Quadra-Trac®, their first ever automatic full-time four-wheel-drive system. It was available in full-size Jeep trucks and wagons, in addition to the Jeep CJ-7.
