The all-new Jeep Compass is extending the Jeep brand's reach into an entirely new market segment – the compact sport-utility vehicle (SUV). Unprecedented fuel economy of over 43 mpg combined, a first for the Jeep brand, and an all-new Freedom Drive four-wheel-drive system boast the credentials of this modern-styled compact SUV. The Compass is also the first Jeep vehicle to feature a front-wheel-drive-based architecture, combined with a fully independent suspension for enhanced on-road ride and handling.
Peter Lambert, Managing Director of Chrysler Group UK, spoke of the new Compass' appeal: "The distinctive Jeep look, combined with the promise of four-wheel drive on their daily drive, allows the Compass to meet the demands of younger and female customers who may not have previously considered the brand." The new Jeep also provides a roomy interior and a choice of efficient petrol and diesel engines, all within a footprint no larger than that of a Ford Focus.
Freedom Drive I is an active four-wheel-drive system that is unquestionably helpful in day-to-day driving, such as in wet or icy conditions. In addition, the compact 4x4 market segment in Western Europe is expected to grow to nearly 400,000 units by 2010, and the Compass marks a promising new chapter for the Jeep brand as it stands ready to take advantage of this growing demand.
