Jeep Wagoneer 1963 posters

Jeep Wagoneer

The iconic Jeep Wagoneer was a revolutionary early sport utility vehicle (SUV) which set the bar for 4x4s, being produced for an astonishing 28 years without major mechanical changes. Unheard of features at the time, such as power steering and automatic transmission, combined with an overhead cam engine and independent front suspension, made it the first true luxury 4x4. It debuted seven years before the Land Rover Range Rover and was the first to offer features such as factory air conditioning. The Wagoneer was based on the Jeep SJ platform, and was powered by a 140 hp (104 kW) "Tornado" SOHC 230 CID (3.8 L) inline six-cylinder engine, with a lower-compression 133 hp (99 kW) version released in 1964. It was one of the last vehicles in the United States to feature a carburetor, sold until 1993.
