Jeep Wagoneer
Introduced in 1963, the Jeep Wagoneer was a pioneering sport utility vehicle (SUV), capable of tackling almost any terrain. It stayed in production for 28 years with only minor mechanical changes. The Wagoneer was ahead of its time, featuring power steering, an overhead cam engine, automatic transmission and independent front suspension - all of which had previously not been available on 4WD vehicles. There was also an optional solid front axle. When compared to the utilitarian work-oriented vehicles offered by International Harvester and Land Rover, the Jeep Wagoneer was the first to offer luxury alongside its off-road capabilities. The Wagoneer was based on the Jeep SJ platform. Before the introduction of the iconic Land Rover Range Rover, this 4x4 was seven years ahead of it in the US market. The Jeep Wagoneer was the last US vehicle to feature a carburetor, with Isuzu subsequently only producing theirs until 1993.
