Jeep Wrangler 1987 posters

Jeep Wrangler

In response to the growing demand for compact four-wheel-drive vehicles that had all the "creature comforts" of a passenger car, the 1987 Jeep Wrangler (YJ) was introduced as a replacement for the Jeep CJ series. Although the Jeep Wrangler shared the open-body profile of the CJ-7, it had few common parts. The major improvements included a more mechanical similarity to the Cherokee and the addition of square headlights, something never seen before on this type of Jeep. This model was so successful that over 630,000 units were sold. On Aug. 5, 1987, American Motors Corporation was sold to the Chrysler Corporation thus bringing the popular Jeep brand into the Jeep/Eagle Division.
