Jeep Wrangler Unlimited 2004 posters

Jeep Wrangler Unlimited

The Jeep Wrangler Unlimited is a four-door, five-passenger SUV from the Jeep lineup. It is a successor to the famous World War II GP vehicle, and later to the Jeep CJ series, that first debuted in 1987. It has been updated numerous times since then, with several cosmetic and engine changes, most recently during the 2004 model year when an additional 10" wheelbase was added, making the Wrangler the first two-door SUV. The Wrangler is produced at Jeep's Toledo South Assembly plant in Toledo, Ohio.

TJ

In 1997, Jeep released the updated TJ model with a coil-spring suspension (based on that of the Jeep Grand Cherokee) to improve its ride and handling, as well as returning to the CJ's iconic round headlamps. A 4.0L AMC Straight-6 engine was used, as well as a 2.5L AMC inline-4 motor on entry-level models until 2003, when the 2.4L DOHC Neon 4-cylinder engine took its place. This model of the Jeep was also the first Wrangler to have airbags. In 1999, a larger fuel tank was added, and in 2000, child-seat tethers and sound system improvements were included. In 2001, improvement-wise, intermittent wipers, a new console, and an optional locking storage compartment were introduced.

TJ Wrangler Rubicon

The Wrangler Rubicon, named after the famed Rubicon Trail off-road test track, was released in 2003 with several features. These included front and rear Dana 44 axles with built-in air-actuated locking differentials, a rear helical gear-driven limited slip differential, a 4:1 low-range NV241 transfer case, 4.10:1 differential gears, 16" alloy wheels, and Goodyear MTR P245×75×R16 tires. A NV3550 manual transmission was used in Wranglers from 2003-2004, and a six-speed manual from 2005-onwards. Also, in 2003, a limited run of 1,000 "Tomb Raider" Rubicons was released to promote the movie Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, featuring exterior features such as 16" Alcoa forged aluminum wheels, Tomb Raider badging, and Mopar accessories. The interior featured Dark Slate fabric seats with red accent stitching, a silver surround instrument panel bezel, red seatbelts, and a Tomb Raider badge with serial number, and the model was available in Bright Silver.
