In 2009, Automobili Lamborghini launched an all-new race series called the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo, which was set to become the world's fastest one-make series. To participate in it, the factory offered its customers an exclusive sports machine - the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Super Trofeo, boasting 419 kW (570 hp), a reworked chassis, and a significantly reduced weight.
As the only one-make series in motorsport to feature cars with all-wheel drive, Lamborghini's goal was to make the Super Trofeo the fastest single-brand series in the world. Over the course of 2009, it completed 18 races on famous European circuits, such as Silverstone, Adria Raceway, Norisring, Spa, Barcelona, and Monza, usually supporting popular series like the Deutsche Tourenwagen-Meisterschaft (DTM), the FIA GT Series, and the FIA World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).
For the Super Trofeo, Lamborghini built 30 cars, which were made available to both individual enthusiasts and Lamborghini dealer teams. The factory also entered its own vehicle, and employed well-known guest drivers to take the wheel. On the edge of the track, a Super Trofeo Village hospitality venue was put in place, providing race spectators and participants a place to relax and enjoy the show.
