Lamborghini Gallardo Police Car 2004 posters

Lamborghini Gallardo Police Car

The Gallardo was designed to take on Ferrari's 360 Modena, and now challenges its replacement, the F430. Named after a breed of fighting bull and pronounced "gah-yar-do" (Gallardo is also Spanish for the word gallant), it maintains Lamborghini's performance standards while still being maneuverable and tractable in low-speed traffic. It also features rear-biased all-wheel drive, making it practical for bad weather conditions. Although Lamborghini opted not to include its signature scissor-doors (which have been exclusive to V12 models since the Countach was introduced), this hasn't stopped some owners from fitting their own vertical-opening doors. A base Gallardo model retails for just under $165,000.

Police car

In December of 2004, Lamborghini donated several Gallardo supercars to the Italian police in honor of the force's 152nd anniversary. These cars will be used by the traffic police for emergency and alarm situations on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway, and for transporting organs designated for transplants as part of the special safety operative already in place on this stretch of highway.
