Lancia Delta

The Lancia Delta was a successful car sold by Lancia from 1979 to 1994 and was designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. In Sweden, it was sold by Saab Automobile as the Saab 600, as they had also helped with the logistics, making it better suited for colder climates and less prone to rust than other Lancias. Besides Volkswagen Golf, Vauxhall Astra/Opel Kadett and Ford Escort, the Lancia Delta was known for its modern styling when it was first launched to the market. Among the Delta models, the most iconic one was the Delta HF Integrale, which featured a powerful turbo-charged engine and 4WD drivetrain. This model went on to dominate the World Rally Championship, with 46 race victories and winning the Constructors Championship 6 times in a row from 1987 to 1992 - something that has yet to be matched. On the racing side, the Lancia Delta S4 was specifically built for rally, and was a completely different vehicle from the standard production Delta. It was awarded the Car of the Year in 1980. The HF4WD was introduced to the market in 1985, when harsher regulations were imposed by FISA, restricting the development of Group B and S rally race cars. This model was the successor to the Delta HF turbo, and was touted for the superior handling it offered even as a front-wheel drive car.
