Lancia Stratos Rally Version

The Lancia Stratos was an automobile made by Italian car manufacturer Lancia and was one of the most successful rally racing cars during the 1970s and 1980s. Its bodyworks were designed by Bertone - vaguely based on a concept car first shown at the Turin Motor Show in 1971 - which sported a distinctive crescent-shaped wrap-around windshield providing maximum forward visibility and a wedge-shaped, short and wide body meant for maximum traction. Powered by a mid-mounted 190 bhp (140 kW) 2418 cc Dino Ferrari V6 engine that could be tuned up to 280hp, the Stratos demonstrated its capabilities by winning the 1974, 1975, and 1976 championships. After 400 cars were built to meet the Group 4 homologation requirements in 1973, Fiat group's decision to delegate rallying responsibility to the 131 Abarths effectively ended the Stratos' racing career. A Group 5 road racing silhouette version of the car was also built for sports car and endurance racing, which won the Giro D'Italia Automobilistica in 1976 and 1977. Due to its limited production of 492 units, the Stratos stands as a highly sought-after classic to this day. In popular culture, the Stratos has been featured across various mediums, from cartoons such as The Transformers and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, and video games like Muv-Luv, Muv-Luv Alternative, Sega Rally Championship, Project Gotham Racing 2, Forza Motorsport, and Gran Turismo 4, to Anime like eX-Driver and films like Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo.
