Land Rover Freelander 2 TD4 e
The Land Rover Freelander 2 TD4_e has been recognised as the most fuel-efficient model from Land Rover to date. Featuring an intelligent Stop/Start system, this vehicle incorporates cutting-edge technologies from the company's programme of sustainable engineering initiatives, which have been collectively named 'e_TERRAIN TECHNOLOGIES'.
In comparison with the existing Land Rover Freelander 2 manual diesel model, the TD4_e has reduced its fuel consumption by 8%, according to the EU4 cycle. Moreover, the same tests conducted by Land Rover engineers have also revealed that in heavy urban traffic conditions, even greater savings of up to 20% can be achieved.
These figures correspond to a decrease in the vehicles’ CO2 emissions from 194 g/km to 179 g/km, and the fuel efficiency rate has also plummeted from 7.5 l/100 km to 6.8 l/100 km. This represents a noteworthy reduction of 0.7 litres of fuel for every 100 km (62 miles).
Alongside the intelligent Stop/Start feature, other factors like gearshift indicator light, software developments and low-rolling-resistance tyres contribute to making the Land Rover Freelander 2 TD4_e the most efficient production Land Rover ever manufactured. Additionally, Jaguar and Land Rover have previously invested £700 million in groundbreaking sustainable technologies, so the TD4_e is set to benefit from these developments as well.
Phil Popham, Land Rover's managing director, summarised the product’s potential: “The Stop/Start Freelander 2 is the first production vehicle to benefit from the massive £700 million investment in sustainable technologies by Jaguar and Land Rover. From mid-2009, the Stop/Start feature will be included as standard on all Land Rover Freelander 2 TD4 manual models, with no associated increase in list prices.”
