The Range Rover is the flagship model of the Land Rover lineup. It was first introduced in 1970 and was built on a box section-type chassis, with coil springs as opposed to leaf springs, permanent four-wheel drive, and a Rover V8 engine of 3528 cc (later replaced by a Jaguar V8 of 4.4 litres). The vehicle was popular around the world, although previously it was only available on the grey market in the United States. In 1987 the Range Rover was officially introduced to the U.S., and it would go on to be the only model sold by Land Rover until 1993. From the beginning, the Range Rover was designed for off-road use while providing extreme levels of luxury, and is now in its third generation, recognizable as the L322 or just "new Range Rover".
In 1995, the P38A second-generation Range Rover arrived with an updated version of the Rover V8, a 2.5 litre BMW turbo-diesel, as well as improved air suspension and 4-wheel traction control. It also featured ABS brakes and increased levels of luxury. The third-generation Range Rover was released in 2002 and, with 25 years since the introduction of the first generation Range Rover, the legacy of this iconic vehicle lives on.
