Land Rover Range Rover Autobiography

The Range Rover is the flagship model of the Land Rover lineup and offers superior luxury and off-roading capabilities. It was the first vehicle in Land Rover's lineup to feature permanent four-wheel-drive, disc brakes, and a lightweight Rover V8 engine (initially a 3528 cc and later a 3947 cc variant). The Range Rover model has seen much success in the United Kingdom and abroad, although prior to 1987 the Range Rover was only available for sale in the United States through the grey market. The heavy grey market interest for the Range Rover compelled Land Rover to officially begin selling in the US in 1987; subsequently, the company changed its name to Land Rover USA in 1993 upon the launch of the Defender 110 and the Discovery. The Range Rover has always been renowned for its luxuriousness and off-roading capability, and is referred to among enthusiasts as either the Classic, P38A or the L322/New Range Rover. The third generation, which was introduced in 2002, was the first of the series to be sold under Ford Motor Company, who had taken ownership from BMW in 2001. This generation saw a major jump upmarket in luxury and came equipped with a BMW M62 V8 gasoline and a 6-cylinder diesel engine. North American markets only enjoyed the V8 gasoline, while the rest of the world could choose between the two engines. This generation also included increased ground clearance, cross-linked air springs, and a monocoque body — these being major design cues of the classic model.
