Land Rover Range Rover Sport Diesel
The Land Rover Range Rover Sport is a mid-size luxury sports SUV that was first sold in the summer of 2005. It has a five-passenger capacity and is based on the Land Rover Discovery's (LR3 in North America) platform instead of the larger Range Rover's. With its 6-speed automatic transmissions and fuel capacity of 88 liters, the Range Rover Sport is 4.788 meters long, 2.170 meters wide, and approximately 1.8 meters tall. It is marketed by Land Rover as a sports tourer, and is the second most powerful vehicle in the company's lineup with its supercharged 4.2L AJ-V8 engine that produces 390 PS (287kW/410hp). The normally-aspirated 4.4L engine variant has 300PS (220kW/295hp). The Ranger Rover Sport can also withstand if submerged in 70 cm of water.
In the summer of 2005, the Range Rover Sport was met with protest by Greenpeace. They cited issue with its contribution to greenhouse gas emissions and the vehicle's consumption of hydrocarbons. A study done in late 2005 showed that the Range Rover Sport had an estimated fuel efficiency of 30L/100km - barely managing 8 miles with only one gallon of fuel in the tank before the car stopped running.
Before its release, Land Rover presented a bright orange, low-slung, 3-door concept car labeled the Range Stormer. It was a striking car that gave away many of the styling cues of the upcoming production series. But when the vehicle finally reached the public, it was a 5-door model, not much shorter than its standard Range Rover brethren, and its design had been toned down. While the Range Rover Sport was selling comfortably despite this, it is worth noting whether the model has increased sales or simply taken away from the already popular Range Rover.
