Land Rover Range e Concept

Land Rover has taken a major step forward in building vehicles that demonstrate more fuel and emissions efficiency with the introduction of the Land Rover Range_e at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show. This cutting-edge concept relies on a plug-in hybrid diesel-electric powertrain, which is expected to be available in production models from 2013. The Range_e is based on the Range Rover Sport and is equipped with a 245PS 3.0-litre TDV6 diesel engine, an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and a 69kW electric motor. By using a parallel hybrid system, coupled with a 14.2kW/h lithium-ion battery that can be recharged from a 240V power source, the Range_e is capable of driving on electric power for over 20 miles with zero exhaust emissions. A full charge from a regular domestic power outlet can be achieved in about four hours. The Range_e has an impressive overall CO2 emissions level of 89g/km yet offers a maximum system output of 339PS as well as a top speed of around 120mph, which delivers a phenomenal fuel efficiency of 85mpg. Thanks to the hybrid system, it's possible to travel up to 690 miles on one tank of fuel.
