Lexus GS300

The Lexus GS is a mid-size luxury sports sedan / executive car produced by Toyota's Lexus division. It replaced the Toyota Crown as a model between the entry-level ES and top-of-the-range LS, and was released in 1991 in Japan and two years later in the US, Europe, and selected other markets. The GS is built with the platform and running gear of the Toyota Crown, and intended to rival the BMW 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz E-Class. It is typically longer than the ES model, but has a shorter wheelbase than both. The GS also comes in the form of the Toyota Aristo in Japan, the two variants featuring different engine and transmission combinations, as well as equipment packages. In terms of changes, the second-generation Aristo was released in Japan with a 2JZ-GE I6 engine and 4-wheel-steering, as well as VDC and a sequential automatic transmission in some cases. Meanwhile, the GS began production in 1997 and was launched in the form of the GS 400, bearing a UZ-series V8 and producing 300 hp and 310 ft·lbf of torque. From 0-60 mph, the GS could make the mark in 5.4 seconds, and in 2001 the engine was increased in capacity and the model renamed the GS 430 with a peak torque of 325 ft·lbf. The GS was the recipient of both Motor Trend's Import Car of the Year award in 1998, as well as inclusion in Car and Driver's Ten Best list between 1998 and 2000.
