The Lexus IS-F project had humble beginnings, started by two passionate engineers, Yaguchi-san and Sakamoto-san, both of whom had been experimenting with the Lexus IS300. They then tested the limitations of the newer Lexus IS and continued to work on improving aspects such as the vehicle's dynamics, eventually requesting permission to expand the project from the directors of the company. Such dedication was met with enthusiasm from the higher-ups and the project was officially launched in 2004.
The official unveiling at the Frankfurt launch in 2007 revealed just how much demand there was for a performance-driven vehicle bearing the Lexus badge. In order to create this car, the team had to consider what drivers wanted from their cars - the response, handling, power, sound, and feeling of high acceleration. Ultimately, this resulted in the Lexus IS-F.
