Lexus IS430 Project

The Lexus IS is a luxury car/compact executive car produced by the Lexus marque of Toyota Motor Corporation. It is positioned as an entry-level model, slotting lower in the Lexus lineup than the ES. It competes against BMW's 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz's C-Class, and Nissan Skyline/Infiniti G35 sedans. First generationThe first-generation Altezza (codename XE10) was released in Japan in 1998 while the Lexus IS 200 arrived in Europe in 1999 and IS 300 in North America in 2001. US and European sales of the IS 300 were substandard compared to the Mercedes-Benz C-Class and other German competitors. Japanese markets saw a hatchback/ station wagon version called the Gita, which was rebranded as the IS Sportcross in the US and Europe and only available with a 6-cylinder engine. Second generationThe 2006 IS model marked a redesign of the car. The Altezza name was replaced with the Lexus name in Japan, while the Sportcross version was dropped from the lineup worldwide. The updated IS was unveiled at the 2005 Geneva Auto Show. Sales in the US, UK and Europe improved upon the introduction of the new model, albeit still lag behind its German rivals.
