Lincoln logo, the final version of which was created only in 1950s, is a framed, four-pointed star in silver-grey color though some people think that this emblem looks more like a compass. Despite the fact that the emblem is very simple, it had a great impact on consumers and managed to become the symbol of luxury, elegance and prestige. Before 1950s, a greyhound and, later, a coat of arms were the symbols of the brand.
The company was founded in 1917 by Henry Leland, who earlier created Cadillac brand. First, it produced aircraft engines, using Ford cylinders, but after the First World War, Leland decided to produce luxury cars. In 1920, the brand released its first car, Lincoln L-Series. In 1922, the company was sold to Ford because of serious financial problems. In 1936, Lincoln-Zephyr was introduced. That model became so popular that the sales grew drastically. In 1955, Lincoln Continental was produced. It remained a flagman of Ford Company till 1981, when the production of limousine Lincoln Town Car started. In 1998, Lincoln was one of the first brands, releasing prestigious SUVs, Lincoln Navigator.
Lincoln has huge experience in creating cars for US presidents. The first one, Lincoln V12 convertible, was used by Franklin D. Roosevelt since 1939. In 1950, Lincoln Cosmopolitan became the other presidential car, which was used by Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy and Johnson. Lincoln Continental convertible (produced in 1961) was the car, in which Kennedy was shot. Later, this model was used by Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan and Bush.
