The Lotus Elise is a two-seater roadster which was conceived in the early 1990s by English car manufacturer Lotus Cars. It features a lightweight, hand-finished fiberglass body and an aluminium extrusion bonded frame that serves as a platform for its suspension. This lightweight design allows it to reach speeds up to 240 km/h (150 mph).
The original Elise, known as the Series 1, spawned a faster variant, the 111S, which came with a higher-performance Rover K-Series engine, a closer ratio gearbox, lower ratio final drive, alloy window winders and cosmetic updates including headlamp covers and a rear spoiler.
In October 2000, the Series 2 was launched, featuring a slightly modified version of the Series 1's chassis and a new engine with a Lotus-developed ECU. It was available as a 111S model, and also as the Sport 160, which included a track handling package. The 111S models were discontinued in 2005.
