Lotus Elise Type 49

Based on Colin Chapman's design philosophy of "Performance through light weight", the production model of Lotus Elise sat at a light 720 kg in 1996. This number towered above the 1,250 kg of the Porsche Boxster, which was known for its lightweight build. The modest power output of 120 bhp was able to propel the Elise to 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds, while the Boxster reached the same speed with 201 bhp. Moreover, the Elise's light weight reduced its fuel consumption, making it a great option for sports car lovers looking for performance and affordability. Beyond the typical higher-performance variants, Lotus also released limited edition models that improved cornering, braking, and acceleration. Special editions such as Sport 135 (1998/9) with 145 bhp, Sport 160 with 150-160 bhp, and Sport 190 with 190 bhp also have their place in the Elise's portfolio. To commemorate 50 years of Lotus cars, the 50th Anniversary Edition was released in a green and gold color. Additionally, the Type 49 and Type 72 variants offer red and white "Gold Leaf" and black and gold "JPS" colorways respectively that pay homage to their successful Grand Prix cars.
