Mazda 3 5door

The Mazda3, or Axela as it is known in Japan, is a compact car manufactured by the Mazda Motor Corporation. In 2004, it replaced the Mazda Familia (323 or Protegé in export markets). That year, production of the Axela had started on December 8, making it a popular choice and the third best-selling car in Canada. In response to worldwide demand, Mazda has increased the production of the car at its Hofu 1 and 2 factories up to 300,000 units per year. (This vehicle will be referred to as the "Axela" throughout this article for consistency.)

Design

The Axela is based on the Ford global C1 platform, which was developed by Volvo and is shared with the latest European Ford Focus and Volvo S40. Mazda was responsible for the chassis development, while Ford designed the suspension. The exterior of the car is based on the MX-Sportif concept car, and is available as a four-door sedan and a five-door hatchback. Its front suspension is a MacPherson strut system with coil springs and an anti-roll bar, and its rear suspension is a Ford-designed "E-link" multi-link system with four locating links per wheel and an anti-roll bar. Disc brakes are standard on all four wheels with 300 mm discs in the front and 279 mm in the rear. Optional features include ABS and electronic brake force distribution, and wheel and tire sizes range from 15 inches on the base models to 17 inches on the upper-level models.
