Mazda 3 Sedan

The Mazda3, also known as the Axela, is a compact automobile produced by the Mazda Motor Corporation. This reliable model was released in 2004 as a replacement for the Mazda Familia (323 or Protegé in export markets). Production of the Axela takes place in the Hofu 1 and 2 factories and to date worldwide orders have exceeded 300,000 annually. (This vehicle will be referred to as the "Axela" throughout this article for consistency.)

Design

The chassis and suspension of the Axela were designed by Mazda and Ford on the global C1 platform, previously used for the European Ford Focus and Volvo S40. The exterior looks are based on the MX-Sportif concept car, and the Axela is available as a four-door sedan or a five-door hatchback. It is also equipped with MacPherson struts, rear suspension with Ford's "E-link", four locating links for each wheel and anti-roll bar. Disc brakes, either 300 mm (11.8 in) in the front and 279 mm (11 in) in the rear, are fitted as standard and ABS and electronic brake force distribution can be added depending of the model. Its wheel and tire sizes range from 15 in (381 mm) for the basic models to 17 in (432 mm) optional on the upper-level’s ones.
