Mazda 323F

The Mazda 323/323F series presents two body styles: a 5-door hatchback and a 4-door sedan. Both are roomy enough to accommodate up to five people comfortably and offer ample luggage capacity. All models come with a transverse, front-wheel-drive powertrain and an all-independent suspension fitted on a new platform with a long wheelbase of 2,610 mm and the same wide tracks of 1,470 mm in both front and rear. The 323F 5-door hatchback is 40 mm shorter and 65 mm taller than its predecessor, measuring 4,200 mm long, 1,705 mm wide and 1,410 mm tall (1,420 mm with the roof antenna). Entry/exit is easier, thanks to the increased rear seat hip-point (89 mm with the sliding rear seat). Meanwhile, the 323 4-door sedan has a compact length of 4,315 mm, 20 mm shorter than the previous model, and yields comparable passenger and luggage capacity to that of its class-leading predecessor. The engine range of the new 323/323F series includes three gasoline models and one diesel. The SOHC 16-valve unit has been modified and improved, while the two DOHC 16-valve gasoline engines are new to this Mazda. The naturally aspirated, swirl-chamber diesel has received numerous improvements and refinements.
