The Mazda 5 (known as the Mazda Premacy in some markets) is a compact MPV that has been built by the Japanese car manufacturer Mazda since 1999. It has been sold in Europe, Asia and America, and as of March 31, 2005, over 285,000 Mazda 5s have been sold worldwide.
The first generation Mazda 5 (1999-2005) was built on the CP platform. It was sold in varying body styles, either as a 5-seater or a 7-seater in certain markets, and with either front or all-wheel drive. It was equipped with an automatic transmission, and its second-row seats could be folded and removed. In some Asian markets, this generation of the Mazda 5 was sold as the Ford Ixion.
Mazda 5s from this generation were powered by several engines, including a 1.8L FP-DE I4, 2.0L FS-DE/FS-ZE I4, and 2.0L diesel I4.
