The Mazda 6 replaces the Capella/626, and has become a popular car with over one million units sold worldwide since its introduction. It is available as a 4-door sedan, 5-door hatchback, and 5-door station wagon. It comes equipped with the Mazda Z engine in different sizes of 1.8 L, 2.0 L and 2.3 L, with the option of a 6-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission with sequential-automatic features. In certain areas, a 3.0 L Duratec 30 V6 engine is available too and this comes with a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic with sequential-automatic options. There is also a four-cylinder turbodiesel engine available in some areas. In certain models, a 6-speed automatic and 5-speed manually shiftable automatic are now available. Generally, the 6 is front wheel drive, though there are full-time all wheel drive models available in Japan and Europe. Ford uses the Mazda 6's CD3 platform for an array of vehicles, such as Fusion, Mercury Milan, Lincoln Zephyr/MKZ, Lincoln MKX, and revenue of SUVs and minivans. Ford also plans to offer a hybrid powertrain on the platform. Mazda refers to this chassis as the GG (sedan/hatch) or GY (wagon) series.
