Mazda Hakaze Concept

The Mazda Hakaze concept is inspired by the shapes moulded by natural elements, particularly the wind shaping the sand. In Japanese, Hakaze is derived from ha for “leaf” and kaze, which means “wind.” This combination aptly describes how the vehicle looks as if it’s cutting through the air while standing still. The Mazda Hakaze has a very compact set of proportions with a length of 4,420mm, which is very similar to the Mazda3 hatchback, but is wider and taller at 1,890mm and 1,560mm respectively, and a high seating position. The exterior design is modernistic with no door handles, no mirrors, and a two-thirds glass removable roof. Lowering the car's four frameless windows then transforms the concept into a four-seat coupe with a roadster feel. Mickael Loyer, who designed Mazda Sassou at the 2005 Frankfurt Motor Show, and Luca Zollino took inspiration for the Mazda Hakaze from sports and outdoor activities. Loyer noted, “We were looking for shapes moulded by natural elements, and how the wind shapes the sand is a key element in the exterior design of this concept.”
