Mazda MPV ES 2004 posters

Mazda MPV ES

The Mazda MPV, a second-generation minivan, replaced the original MPV for 2000. It featured a front wheel drive LW platform based on the 626, sliding rear doors, front-wheel drive, and a rear seat that folded flat into the floor. Additionally, the rear-door windows rolled down. It was initially powered by the Mazda AJ (Duratec) 2.5 L V6, designed by Porsche, and was later upgraded to Mazda's AJ 3.0 L V6 with a 5-speed automatic transmission, which produced 200 hp and 200 ft·lbf of torque. The 2004 model adopted an aggressive style, improving the grille with a single chrome bar at the top, as well as introducing Altezza style clear taillights. The LX Sport package being offered included body side skirts and air dam bumpers with optional spoiler. The ES model added leather seats, rear air conditioner, and power sliding doors, with a choice of sunroof or roof mounted DVD player. By 2006, the MPV remained one of the few minivans to retain the short wheelbase form factor, known for its narrow size, light weight and maneuverability. It garnered praise as Ford's best minivan, and was well-priced as both a used vehicle or with sales incentives when new. The next MPV is expected to include lazy-boy recliner feature seats and a turbo 4 engine; however, with the addition of the Mazda5 minivan, CX-7 and CX-9 SUVs to North America, Mazda ceased exporting the MPV to North America after the 2006 model year.
