This September, Mazda brings their third-generation MX-5 soft top roadster an exciting new addition: The Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe. This coupe is equipped with a power retractable three-panel hard top that folds neatly behind the seats, although the boot space of 150 litres stays the same. It takes a mere 12 seconds (the fastest on the market) to change from compact coupe to open-top roadster, and vice versa. Despite added reinforcements, the car is only 37 kg heavier than its sister model. Its design reflects the classic MX-5, while the rear area gives it a unique character.
The Mazda MX-5 Roadster Coupe is based on the soft top MX-5 model that received the Guinness Book of World Records' highest honor in 2000, achieving the most successful open-top, two-seater vehicle title. As of June 2006, 774,372 MX-5s have been produced. At the 2005 Geneva Motor Show, the third-generation of the Mazda MX-5 was presented, and it still has maintained its classic design of front and midship engine placement, rear-wheel drive, 50:50 weight distribution, standard two-seater design, long bonnet, and short rear end.
