Mazda Shinari Concept

The Mazda Shinari is a four-door, four-seater sports coupe concept car that exudes the 'KODO - Soul of Motion' design theme in a captivating, carefree form. In Japanese, Shinari means the brawny but elastic force of firm objects like steel and bamboo when bent or twisted. Moreover, it symbolizes the palpability of an organism’s body as it fluidly changes shape in a fast-paced motion. In this way, the Mazda designers unlocked the notion of 'KODO - Soul of Motion'. The Mazda Shinari Concept immediately grabs viewers’ attention with its nimble, strongly-built silhouette. It visually relays both Mazda’s wish to stir its viewers’ emotions and leave logic behind, as well as embodies that sentiment wholeheartedly. Yasushi Nakamuta, the main designer behind the third generation Mazda MX-5, spearheaded the concept of the Mazda Shinari. He commented, “Our challenge was to come up with an original expression of kinetic power that we had yet to explore. To do this, we started with dynamic pictures of predators pouncing on their prey and the piercing movements of kendo, Japanese fencing.”
