Mercedes-Benz 190E

At its presentation in December 1982, the Mercedes-Benz mid-size sedan didn't appear particularly radical, dubbed within the company as the "compact class", positioned below the E-Class, S-Class and SL-Class. Its unmistakable clear-cut lines gave it a genuine Mercedes-Benz look, signifying progress into a new car category. With its sharply defined wedge shape and carefully faceted, light-catching edges, there was something eye-catching about the new model series and its place among the other members of the Mercedes family. The designer responsible for the characteristic shape was Bruno Sacco. The first models of the W 201 series were the 190 and 190E, to become a great success and role models and the precursor of the following C-Class generations. Often affectionately referred to as the Baby Benz, the 190 sedan set the first tone for Mercedes-Benz product range. The C-Class was designed to imitate the characteristics of its larger siblings in regards to maneuverability, passive safety and dependability, but with a smaller size and lighter weight, making it much more economical. The following W 202 series cemented its name as the C-Class.
