Mercedes-Benz 230 SL Roadster

The Mercedes-Benz W 113 automobiles were produced from 1963 through 1971 and were most famously known as the "pagoda roof" SL Class. It was a rear-wheel drive equipped with an inline six-cylinder engine and multi-port fuel injection using a mechanical pump system adapted from the diesel motors. In order to reduce the weight, aluminum panels were used for the trunk lid, front hood, tonneau cover and door skins. The 230 SL had a 2.3 liter engine and was often sold as a 4-speed manual transmission car. An automatic 4-speed transmission version was also available for the U.S. market. It was a popular option, especially given the installment of power-assisted front disc/rear drum brakes. The 250 SL, a one-year model, was slightly different. It had a 2.5 liter motor and was available with rear disc brakes. If one desired, they could also get a ZF 5-speed manual transmission model that lasted up until 1970. The 250 SL had a sportier feel yet more impressive performance than the 230 SL. The Coupe/Roadster configuration of the car was often sold with both the removable hard top and a soft top, while the California Coupe featured just the hard top. These 2+2 models, with small and insignificant rear-seats, are now few and far between.
