Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman Limousine

The Mercedes-Benz 600 was a large luxury automobile, intended as the pinnacle of automotive engineering. Production began in 1965 — lasting until 1980 — with a total of 2,677 vehicles made. It was generously equipped with many luxurious features, like a complex hydraulic system and adjustable air suspension, for a smooth ride and good handling. Powering this heavy car was a massive 6.3L V8 engine with overhead camshafts and Bosch mechanical fuel injection. The 600 saw several variants available, including a four-door sedan with a short wheelbase, a four-door sedan on the same short wheelbase but with a power window separating the front seats from the back bench seat, as well as a four-door limousine on a longer wheelbase featuring two rear-facing jump seats and a rear bench seat. A rare six-door limousine and two rare coupés were also produced, along with a special funeral coach. The engine and air suspension of the 600 were used in the development of the 300SEL 6.3 model in 1966 and the limited-production 6.9 model on the W116 chassis. Famous owners of this model include Hugh Hefner, Elizabeth Taylor, John Lennon, Jason Kay, Aristotle Onassis, Nicolae Ceausescu, Josip Broz-Tito, Chairman Mao Tse-Tung, and Elvis Presley.
