Mercedes-Benz Bluetec Hybrid Concept

At the International Motor Show (IAA) 2005 in Frankfurt, Mercedes-Benz presented the "DIRECT HYBRID" and "BLUETEC HYBRID." These two concept cars feature a unique design that improve fuel consumption and emissions significantly while still delivering the renowned high dynamic ride comfort of the S-Class. The development team at Mercedes-Benz aimed to reach the highest standards of ride comfort, dynamics, safety, and economy while being environmentally-friendly. "For the drive concepts of the near future the objective is to make petrol cars as efficient as diesels, and diesels as clean as petrol cars," stated Dr. Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler AG. To reduce fuel consumption, the engineers at Mercedes-Benz implemented a second-generation spray-guided petrol direct injection system in the 3.5-litre V6 in the new S-Class. This engine is paired with a compact, high-torque electric motor to form the "DIRECT HYBRID," which will be exhibited at the show.
