Mercedes-Benz CLK320 CDI Cabriolet Avantgarde

The Mercedes-Benz CLK320 CDI Cabriolet Avantgarde, which belongs to the W209 series of cars, has been produced since 2002. It is sold under the CLK-Class model name and is based on the W203 C-Class. It was created to replace the C208 CLK-Class in 2004, the first car to proudly carry the CLK moniker. The CLK has two body styles – coupe and cabriolet – and three engine variants consisting of a V6 (CLK320 in '04, CLK350 thereafter), V8 (CLK500), and supercharged V8 (CLK55). The cabriolet (CLK500A) features a fully automatic retractable soft top with a metal tonneau, which can be operated remotely with a key fob.

Market position and competitors

The CLK is placed in the mid-luxury market and is Mercedes-Benz's sole 4-seater cabriolet. It is in direct competition with the Volvo C70 and Lexus SC430, although it is available with larger engine models. This vehicle slots in between the BMW 3-Series coupe/cabriolet and 6-Series coupe/cabriolet.

Characteristics

Boasting excellent craftsmanship, the CLK's handling is exemplary in both regular and extreme conditions. Performance is limited to 135mph for the CLK350 and 500 models, and 155mph for the CLK55 model. Furthermore, the Electronic Stability Control (ESP) and Antilock breaking system (ABS) further enhance the CLK's cornering and braking capabilities. However, the ESP system will not allow any fishtailing nor drifting without first disabling the ESP system using a factory test protocol.
