Mercedes-Benz CLK430 Cabriolet
The Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class is a series of mid-size luxury coupés and convertibles which have been created in two generations. It features a design and styling based on the E-Class, while its mechanical underpinnings such as the W202 and W203 platforms were borrowed from the C-Class. The CLK falls between the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class and SL-Class in terms of size and is positioned above the SLK-Class. The name CLK is derived from the German term for ‘Coupé Leicht Kompakt’ which stands for ‘Coupe Light Short’. In 2009, Mercedes replaced the CLK designation with the E-Class Coupe/Convertible designation which it called these vehicles before the CLK name was introduced in the 1990s.
The first-generation C208/A208 CLK was released in 1997 and was based on the W202 Mercedes-Benz C-Class launched a few years earlier. This generation consists of the CLK 200 (136 PS (100 kW; 134 bhp)) and the CLK 230 Kompressor 193-197 PS (142-145 kW; 190-194 bhp). The CLK 320 Coupé was unveiled in 1997 and is powered by a 218 PS (160 kW; 215 bhp) 3.2 L V6 engine. In 1998, the CLK GTR was released featuring a 5.9 L V12 engine and 25 CLK GTRs were created for use on the road. The CLK 320 Cabriolet and the CLK 430 with its 279 PS (205 kW; 275 bhp), 4.3 L V8 engine were released in 1999. All models are available in both coupe and convertibles. Additionally, the supercharged CLK 200 Kompressor was also available in Europe, achieving 193bhp due to euro2 emission specifications. In 2000, a facelift was launched which included a new instrument cluster and multifunction display, steering wheel with multifunction display and radio controls, a Tiptronic automatic gearbox, revised bumpers and new side skirts and side-view mirror-mounted turn signals.
