At the start of October 2004, Mercedes-Benz launched the new CLS-Class four-door Coupé. This model, unlike any other, combines the striking look of a coupé with the comfort and practicality of a saloon. Along with its sleek design, the CLS-Class boast a spacious interior and plenty of storage space, a trait usually seen in sedans.
In terms of technology, the CLS-Class features several modern safety features like adaptive front and side airbags, windowbags, and the PRE-SAFE occupant protection system – a world-first. Furthermore, the car has two powerful engines: a newly developed V6 (200 kW/272 hp) in the CLS 350 and a muscular eight-cylinder powertrain (225 kW/306 hp) in the CLS 500. Both engines come with the new seven-speed 7G-TRONIC automatic transmission. Moreover, the CLS 500 is installed with futuristic features such as AIRMATIC DC air suspension and intense THERMOTRON facility with four-zone climate control, allowing passengers to experience S-Class level comfort.
Mercedes-Benz's new four-door coupé was inspired by a study car which they showed off at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show – the response to which was so positive that the management in Stuttgart gave the go-ahead to its production.
