Mercedes-Benz Direct Hybrid Concept

At the International Motor Show (IAA) 2005 in Frankfurt, Mercedes-Benz revealed two innovative concept cars, the "DIRECT HYBRID" and the "BLUETEC HYBRID," showcasing designs that significantly improve fuel consumption and emissions while preserving remarkable dynamic ride comfort. The company used the powerful S-Class as the basis for these concepts. Mercedes-Benz places immense importance on providing customers with the best of all worlds: optimal ride comfort, dynamics, and safety alongside economical usage and eco-friendly emissions. Dr. Thomas Weber, Member of the Board of Management of DaimlerChrysler AG responsible for research and technology and for development at the Mercedes Car Group, stated, “Our goal with the drive concepts of the near future is to enable petrol cars to be as efficient as diesels, and diesels as clean as petrol cars.” To further reduce the fuel consumption of petrol vehicles, Mercedes-Benz developed their second-generation spray-guided petrol direct injection system. By using the existing 3.5-litre V6 as the basis and introducing a small, high-torque electric motor, they have created the "DIRECT HYBRID," which is displayed at IAA in Frankfurt.
