Mercedes-Benz E-Class 4Matic

With snow, sleet, freezing fog, black ice, temperatures hovering around zero and severe frosts, the winter months present some challenging road conditions for drivers. Fortunately, anyone behind the wheel of Mercedes models with the 4MATIC permanent all-wheel-drive system can enjoy a hassle-free driving experience, ready to take on any winter destination. The E-Class 4MATIC, in particular, excels in snowy and icy conditions, delivering excellent traction, unwavering directional stability, comprehensive safety, and unparalleled comfort levels. To show off these features, Mercedes-Benz is hosting a 4MATIC Workshop on the Timmelsjoch high alpine road in Austria. The 4MATIC system is built to handle any weather condition, no matter the driving style. Its 45:55 torque split, multi-disc limited-slip centre differential, and basic locking torque of 50 Nm all contribute to high traction forces. This design easily shifts the drive torque from the front to rear axles, depending on the road, with a range from 30:70 to 70:30. This facilitates an efficient transfer of drive torque, lowered ESP®, 4ETS, and ASR electronic control system interventions, and increased tractive power on slippery roads. However, drivers have to take into account the risks of pushing their vehicle limits too far, as they'll receive a visual warning symbol in their dashboard when on the brink.
