Mercedes-Benz has released the first battery-electric van to be mass-produced by any automobile manufacturer, opening up a new chapter in the drive technology for light commercial vehicles. With its zero-emission drive, the Mercedes-Benz Vito E-Cell is suitable for visiting inner-city areas, as well as for operations in particularly environmentally sensitive areas without any restrictions with respect to load and payload. Commencing in 2010, a small series of 100 units was produced, with an additional 2000 units planned for the year 2011.
