Mini Clubman John Cooper Works

Production of John Cooper Works (JCW)-tuned cars is set to resume at MINI's Plant Oxford, following the second-generation MINI Cooper S Hatch and new MINI Clubman's launch. From July 2008, customers can order factory-built MINIs that deliver 211hp and reach 0-62mph in 6.5 seconds. This new generation of JCW MINIs has been heavily influenced by motor sport, utilizing a larger twin-scroll turbocharger and direct petrol injection with common rail. The four-cylinder engine has received the same modifications as the MINI CHALLENGE race car, including re-engineered brakes, suspension and strengthened gearing. As a result, the cars boast an impressive 132hp/litre with fuel economy of 40mpg. The MINI Cooper John Cooper Works is expected to have an on-the-road price of £20,500, while the MINI Clubman John Cooper Works is priced at £21,700. These new models will be revealed to the public at the International Geneva Motor Show in March 2008.

Engine

The engine in the MINI John Cooper Works cars has been specially developed for the MINI CHALLENGE race car. It is based on the 1.6 litre MINI Cooper S, although the air filter, air mass meter, exhaust system, catalyst, and turbocharger have all been modified. Increased air supply is achieved through a larger air intake pipe that enables a faster induction phase.
